An online post went viral on social media after claiming that detained Senator Leila de Lima was rushed to the hospital.

However, KAMI learned that the claim was misleading.

In a report by Rappler, the post also showed that De Lima was wearing a neck brace after she was allegedly rushed to the hospital.

“Breaking news: Senator de Lima, sinugod sa hospital,” it read in the text of the photo.

The photo was shared by Facebook page Tambayan ni Berto Page on October 16. It garnered about 1,400 reactions, 1,200 comments, and 85 shares.

According to Rappler, the photo was fabricated. The face of De Lima was superimposed over former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo’s body.

The original photo of Arroyo was taken by Rappler photographer Ben Nabong in October 2015 at St. Luke’s Medical Center.

The camp of De Lima also confirmed that the senator was not rushed to the hospital.

“My health is in perfect shape and this edited photo was obviously made by paid trolls hell-bent to ruin, make fun of and discredit me,” De Lima said in a statement released on October 18.

“In fact, when I was granted a one-day medical furlough last year, I made sure to inform everyone about my condition and even reminded the public that there was nothing to worry about me. As a public servant, I have always been transparent,” she added.

Leila Norma Eulalia Josefa Magistrado de Lima is a Filipino politician and served as the Justice Secretary under the administration of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

In 2017, De Lima was arrested and charged for allegedly being involved in the drug trade at the New Bilibid Prison when she was still the Justice Secretary.
