UP starts own version of ceremonial Olympic torch

The University of the Philippines lighted up a ceremonial torch as it starts a new tradition to celebrate its athletes who competed and won in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

Dubbed "U-NITE: Tumitindig, Sumusulong", the Fighting Maroons closed its UAAP Season 78 run with a show of school spirit at the UP Sunken Garden on Friday evening, May 13.

The state university won gold medals through its UP Men's Football Team, UP Women's Football Team, and UP Streetdance Club.

Starting this year, UP will be honoring its athletes with a ceremonial passing of a torch to every Fighting Maroon in the current season of the collegiate games.

The official student publication, the Philippine Collegian, posted on its Facebook page photos from the culminating event.
