WHO, gustong magkaroon ng mandatory swimming at rescue subjects sa Pinas

-Ayon sa WHO, dapat nang magkaroon ng mandatory swimming at rescue subjects sa K-12 curriculum sa Pilipinas

-Ito ay para maiwasan ang napakaraming kaso ng pagkalunod sa bansa na may naitalang 3,202 noong 2016

Gusto ng World Health Organization (WHO) na magkaroon ng mandatory swimming at rescue subjects sa K-12 school curriculum ng Pilipinas.

Kasunod ito ng malaking bilang ng kaso ng pagkalunod sa bansa na may naitalang 3,202 noong 2016.

“In fact, we had a consensus meeting with the Philippines. In fact, the Education (department) did request that. At the moment there is no water safety in school curriculum,” ayon kay Dr. Caroline Lukaszyk, consultant ng WHO sa panayam dito ng ABS-CBN News.

Ayon sa WHO, ang pagkalunod ang ikatlo sa may pinakamalaking bilang ng "unintentional death" sa buong mundo.

Sabi ni Dr. May Ann Sta. Lucia ng Department of Health, kinakailangang magtulong-tulong ang ilang ahensiya ng gobyerno para palawigin ang kaalaman ng mga Pinoy tungkol sa pagkalunod at mga programang magpo-protekta sa publiko laban dito.

“Gawing extensive 'yan (swimming) 'saka kailangan selective. Kasi there are local governments and places where they don’t need it anymore because lifestyle nila yun e.

"It has to be selective kasi we don’t have the facilities. We don’t have the finances. It has to be in places where there are no swimming pools,” ito naman ang naging pahayag ni Department of Education Secretary Leonor Briones.

Ayon naman kay Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, chairman ng Senate committee on basic education, maaaring humingi ng tulong sa mga probadong sektor ang mga eskwelahang walang swimming pool.
