- He made the decision prior to his retirement this coming November 8
- Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa was assigned as the PNP officer-in-charge
General Oscar Albayalde has relinquished his post as the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday.
KAMI learned that Albayalde has stepped down prior to his retirement on November 8, 2019.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Albayalde has decided to go on “non-duty status” which equates to terminal leave.
“After careful thought and deliberation, I have come to the decision to relinquish my post as Chief PNP effective today and go on non-duty status," Albayalde said during the flag-raising ceremony.
"Since I am retiring compulsorily on Nov. 8, 2019, this will pave the way for the appointment of my replacement should the President so desire," he added.

As reported by PTV, Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa, PNP Deputy Chief for administration, will be taking over as the PNP officer-in-charge following the decision of Albayalde.
Earlier, Albayalde was involved in the “ninja cops” controversy. He was accused of preventing the dismissal of 13 policemen that were involved in an irregular drug raid Pampanga that happened in 2013 when he was the provincial police chief.
Born on November 8, 1963, Oscar David Albayalde was appointed as the Regional Director of the National Capital Region Police Office in 2016. He became the chief of PNP in 2018, following the resignation of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
