Presumptive president-elect Rodrigo Duterte is on the cover of prestigious Time magazine's May 23 issue.
The cover featured a photo of Duterte taken by Bicolano photojournalist Edwin Tuyay.
The headline reads: "The Punisher: Why Rodrigo Duterte is the Philippines' new leader."
In a Facebook post on May 14, Saturday, Tuyay said that Time bought his photo for one-time use only. It was originally shot in August 2015 for Asian Dragon Magazine.
Tuyay added that a PDF file of the cover was sent to him by Time on Saturday morning.
Duterte's spokesperson, Peter Laviña has confirmed to the Inquirer that Duterte will be on the said cover.
Former president Corazon Aquino was the first Filipino to grace the cover of the prestigious magazine in 1987.
She was named Time magazine's Woman of the Year and appeared on the cover of its January 5, 1987 issue. She appeared several times on its cover during her presidency and after her death.
