Sjeda Mariñas, a Grade 12 student from Northeast Luzon Adventist College in Isabela province has become a source of inspiration after using her graduation portrait to deliver a positive message in the face of adversity.
In a post shared by Facebook account of Melo S. Studios, Mariñas held a whiteboard in one hand bearing the message: “I lost my leg but not my future.” She also showed her prosthetic leg in her other hand.
In an interview with Coconuts Manila Today, she revealed the reason why her leg was amputated. According to her, it was due to complications from arteriovenous malformation, a congenital disease in which the blood vessels are tangled, leading to a disruption in the blood flow and oxygen circulation.

She wrote the note to motivate and remind herself that she can do anything despite having doubts sometimes.
She also shared that her parents were emotional with the reactions to her photo.
Mariñas plans to major in psychology after graduating next year.
