A video has been circulating online, claiming that President Rodrigo Duterte has confirmed the closure of the country’s largest television network, ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation.
However, KAMI learned that this claim was misleading.
In a report by French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), the video showed a compilation of clips showing President Duterte’s rant against the TV network.
The viral video post also included footage of radio broadcaster Ben Tulfo airing strong words against ABS-CBN.
The first clip showed President Duterte’s strong opposition towards the network’s franchise renewal. It was taken from a video published by the Rappler on April 27, 2017.
It had a caption that read: “Duterte to block renewal of ABS-CBN franchise.”
Meanwhile, the second clip showed Tulfo ranting about the alleged debt of ABS-CBN to the government. The episode was aired on August 6, 2018.

In a previous report by KAMI, an online report went viral on social media claiming that the Congress has already decided to junk the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN. However, it was also reported to be false.
ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation is a giant entertainment company in the country. It was founded on June 13, 1946, and produced many superstars since then.
