A Senate panel in the United States has approved the proposed amendment that seeks to bar the entry of Filipino government officials who are involved in jailing Senator Leila de Lima.

KAMI learned that the said amendment received a nod from the US Senate Appropriations Committee and it was announced to the public by an American legislator.

US Senator Durbin expressed through his recent Twitter post that he is happy that the committee already approved the amendment concerning the Filipina politician.

He also called on the government officials in the Philippines to release De Lima already since he believes that her much-talked-about arrest was just “politically-motivated.”

If the bill gets the approval of the US Senate, the Philippine officials who jailed the former Justice secretary will be barred from stepping on the American soil.

Meanwhile, some officials in the Philippines, including Salvador Panelo, reacted negatively about the development of the proposed amendment in the said Western country.

The Palace Spokesperson stated that the US Senators are not familiar with the issue, and their recent action is a disrespect to the clamor of the Filipino people.

"The US senators' resort to a reckless and unstudied political exercise only highlights their unfamiliarity with the domestic matters of our country as well as their disrespect to the clamor of the Filipino people for law and order," he quipped.
