- A “drug queen” was caught getting in and out of her prison cell
- Yu Yuk Lai has been having lengthy stays at a private hospital for years now
- The Senate questioned the irregularities at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor)
The Senate conducted a hearing over the irregularities in the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
KAMI learned that a convicted drug queen had been able to stay at a private hospital for 10 months.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Leila B. Salaverria), Yu Yuk Lai has been staying at the hospital due to facial pain and anxiety.
Senator Richard Gordon questioned the three lengthy stays at the Metropolitan Hospital and the Philippine Heart Center ranging from 23 days to 10 months.
“When the inmate is rich, they can be brought to the hospital of their choice. But if the inmate is poor, there’s no gas for it,” Gordon said.
“That lady spent 10 months there for a transient ischemic attack and facial pain. How does one get away with that in God’s earth?” he added.

According to Correctional Institution for Women acting superintendent May Ann Marasigan, a transient ischemic attack causes stroke-like symptoms, and is a brief episode that is usually resolved within 24 hours.
The second time Yu was brought to the hospital lasted for 23 days. She was hospitalized due to heat exhaustion and hypothyroidism.
Meanwhile, her third stay at the hospital started from March 15 to May 2, 2017. She was brought to the hospital due to chest pains and coronary artery disease.
In a previous report by KAMI, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed Gerald Bantag as the new director-general of the Bureau of Corrections.
Yu Yuk Lai is a Filipino-Chinese who was arrested in 1998. She was caught selling 3 kilos worth of supposed shabu.
