San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has opened a feeding and education center in Tondo, Manila on Wednesday.
KAMI learned that San Miguel Foundation’s “Better World Community” aims to provide daily meals to 1 million kids in Tondo for the next 10 years.
In a report by ABS-CBN News (author Katrina Domingo), SMC President Ramon Ang said that this was his way of giving back to the place he was born and raised.
"Batang Tondo ako eh... Eh kumita na tayo ng konti so ibinabalik ko naman dito sa lugar kung san ako nanggaling which is Manila and Tondo,” Ang said.
“Subukan muna natin ng 10 years at kung maganda eh di ipagpatuloy pa natin,” he added.
Aside from the feeding program, Ang also wanted to inspire the children to build their dreams.
"San Miguel is into food business so why don't we provide our children in Tondo a better place for them to try our products?" Ang said.
"At the same time, it will be an educational place for them to learn while eating," he said. "We can entice them to dream of becoming somebody," he added.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno was also present during the first day of feeding program. Moreno said that he also experienced going to school without having anything to eat.
"I know what it feels like to come to school starving,” Moreno said.
"Hindi lang ako, pati 'yung mga kaklase ko, medyo slow at hirap 'pag walang chicha," he added.
According to the Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, there were about 2.5 million Filipino families that experienced hunger during the second quarter of 2019.
Ramon S. Ang is a Filipino tycoon. He is the President and Chief Operating Officer of San Miguel Corporation since 2002. According to Forbes, Ang ranked as the 8th richest man in the Philippines in 2018.
