- Sen. Bong Go wants to make barangay officials as regular government employees
- He said that those working in the barangay should be given the right salaries and benefits
- Go has recently filed the Magna Carta for Barangays
Senator Bong Go has been pushing to uplift the welfare of barangay officials.
KAMI learned that Go has filed Senate Bill No. 391 or the Magna Carta for Barangays.
In a report by GMA News Online (author Amita Legaspi), the proposed measure aims to make barangay officials as regular government employees and give the compensation they deserve.
“Barangay officials are our government’s frontliners—first to respond, first to provide and first to serve. Despite this, they receive simple honoraria for their service. That is why under the bill I filed, barangay officials will now be treated as regular government employees receiving benefits that regular government employees enjoy,” Go said.

As mentioned in the bill, the Punong Barangay, members of the Sangguniang Barangay, Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson, barangay secretary, and treasurer will be given salaries, allowances, 13th-month pay, and other benefits.
In a report by Remate, Go said that the bill also aims to maintain the peace and order in the barangays.
“This will ensure the maintenance of peace and order in the barangays. Surely, the security and safety of our countrymen must be met firstly in their immediate communities. This measure hopes to address that,” Go explained.
In a previous report by KAMI, Go has given his recommendation for the next director-general of the Bureau of Corrections.
Christopher “Bong” Go has been the long-time aide of President Rodrigo Duterte. Before becoming a senator, he was the Special Assistant to the President.
