Heaven Peralejo took to Instagram to explain her ABS-CBN Ball outfit. Her attire stirred mixed reactions from netizens because some netizens thought she did not follow the ball's theme which is Filipiniana.

In a social media post, Heaven explained that her outfit was abaniko inspired. Abaniko is a term used for a fan which was used in a Maria Clara’s ensemble. According to her, instead of carrying the fan, they decided to have it designed in her gown.

The ABANIKO - in Philippine history, a Maria Clara’s ensemble is considered lacking without an abaniko fan. This accessory was used by women to communicate messages to one another. Fanning the fan rapidly can mean displeasure while covering it on a lady’s chest can mean modesty. Instead of physically carrying this accessory like the olden days, we decided to adorn my dress with origami abaniko fans. My abaniko speaks of women empowerment #ABSCBNBall2019
