President Rodrigo Duterte said on Tuesday that he would certify the SOGIE bill as urgent.

“Yes, whatever would make the mechanism, what would make them happy. I want to be like Senator Enrile: Gusto ko happy siya," the president said when asked if he would certify the measure.

The chief executive was referring to the old campaign slogan of the former Senate President, Juan Ponce Enrile.

The SOGIE bill prohibits discrimination of members of the LGBT community.

KAMI learned that certifying SOGIE bill as urgent would allow the Senate and the House of Representatives to approve the measure on second and third reading, according to a report by GMA News (Author, Llanesca Panti).

Also from the report, that the bill's versions in both houses are still pending at the committee level.

Senator Risa Hontiveros had refiled the SOGIE Bill in the 18th Congress.

This came after transwoman Gretchen Diez went viral after she was kept from using comfort room for women in Quezon City and was handcuffed.

President Duterte meets with members of LGBTQ advocates in Malacañang last month, including Diez.

Meanwhile, in a report by KAMI, Senate President Tito Sotto who is a critic of SOGIE bill said that the said bill has no chance to pass in the Senate.
