Explainer: What is the curfew being strictly implemented in Manila City now?

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered strict implementation of the curfew on minors on Monday.

KAMI learned those 17 years old and below should not be loitering around Manila City from 10 p.m. until 4 a.m. the next day.

In a report by the Inquirer (author Faye Orellana), Moreno explained that he found about 22 minors loitering around Manila on Sunday night.

In his Facebook live video, Moreno revealed that the authorities accosted about 365 minors and some of them were inhaling solvent, loitering, and sleeping on the streets for July alone.

Here are the penalties for the parents who were found guilty of neglecting their children:

  • 15 to 17 y/o – P2,000 fine
  • 13 to 14 y/o – P3,000 fine
  • 12 y/o and below – P5,000 fine and 6 months imprisonment of the parents

As reported by ABS-CBN News , Moreno signed a memorandum ordering all barangay officials, Manila Police District, and Manila Department of Social Welfare to submit a weekly report in compliance with Ordinance No. 8547.

"In order to achieve the goals of protecting and promoting the welfare of minor children in the city, all punong barangays are hereby ordered to strictly implement City Ordinance No. 8547 in their respective areas of jurisdiction,” it read in the memorandum.

In a previous report by KAMI, Moreno explained that his office will not be issuing any special permits to Divisoria vendors this Christmas season.
