According to a lawmaker, the teachers should be spared from excessive take-home work as well.

KAMI learned that Deputy Speaker and Basilan lone district Rep. Mujiv Hataman said that the workload of the teachers should be addressed, too.

In a report by the Manila Bulletin (author Ellson Quismorio), Hataman explained that teachers should be included in the “no-homework” policy.

“If the Department of Education (DepEd) is to consider a ‘no-homework’ policy for public school students, it should first address the mountain of clerical work and reports [that] teachers take home,” Hataman said.

“Teachers should be the first to be spared of excessive homework,” he added.

“Marami rin silang take-home na trabaho. Maraming reports na dapat sulatin at i-submit. Kayod na nga sa eskwela sa araw, kayod pa sa bahay sa gabi,” the lawmaker continued.

However, Hataman explained that teachers should be given enough time to rest and spend quality time with family and friends.

“Hindi naman masama ang reports. Iyan ay isang effective tool sa pag track ng performance at progress. Huwag lang excessive na to the point na wala nang free time ang ating mga guro, na pati Sabado’t Linggo niya na para sana sa pamilya ay inaagaw na ng homework mula sa eskwela,” he said.

In a previous report by KAMI, two lawmakers have filed bills in the House of Representatives that aim to ban giving homework to students.

The objectives of the proposed measures are to ease the physical burden of the students, for them to get enough rest, and spend quality time with family and friends.

Mujiv Sabbihi Hataman is a Filipino politician. Before becoming the Lone District Representative of Basilan, he also served as the Regional Governor of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao and the representative of Anak Mindanao from 2001 to 2010.
