Liberal Party (LP) vice presidential bet and Camarines Sur Rep. Ma. Leonor “Leni” Robredo extended her gratitude to rival Senator Alan Peter Cayetano for conceding defeat last Thursday, May 11.
The leading vice presidential candidate also said that she is willing and ready to work with Cayetano to help promote the welfare of the people.

“We thank Sen. Alan Cayetano for his statement about the results of the election,” Robredo said in a statement. “We remain open to working with him for the continuous improvement of the lives of our countrymen,” she added.
Robredo also expressed her hopes for the canvassing of votes to be done as early as possible so that the healing can begin.

The race for the vice presidential seat continues to be a close one between Robredo and Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. The gap that Marcos needs to close is at least 220,000 as of Friday afternoon.
However, Cayetano believes that Robredo has “clearly won” the election.
Cayetano is also encouraging the other candidates to respect the electoral system and accept defeat. Instead of doubting the results, Cayetano asked fellow candidates and Filipinos to support Robredo and leading presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
Aside from Cayetano, vice presidential candidates Sen. Francis Escudero, Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV and Sen. Gregorio Honasan have also conceded defeat. Marcos is the remaining candidate who has not yet conceded.
Marcos, on the other hand, questioned the results of the vice presidential polls claiming that Robredo’s lead is somehow unbelievable. He is furthermore still hopeful that he would eventually overtake Robredo and win the vice presidential seat.
The final and official canvassing of results will commence on May 25.
