According to Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, President Rodrigo Duterte has commented over the supposed early release of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
KAMI learned from GMA News that the President strongly opposed the early release of Sanchez.
"Nung nalaman ni Pangulong Duterte yang balitang yan, ipinarating niya po kay BuCor chief Nick Faeldon at kay Secretary Guevarra na huwag i-release [si Sanchez] upon the order of the higher authority,” Go said.
"Sino pa ba ang higher authority? Not higher authorities, higher authority. Ibig sabihin ang Pangulo," he added.
The senator also revealed that President Duterte was angered by the reports claiming that Sanchez was among the candidates who are subjected to early release due to “good conduct.”
"Abugado po ang Pangulo. Pinag-aaralan niya ang batas. Excluded po siya (Sanchez) dun sa Republic Act No. 10592. Sa Section 1, excluded ang lahat ng heinous crimes," Go said.

In a previous report by KAMI, Sanchez was among the candidates who were subjected to an early release. However, both the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Corrections said that Sanchez is not legible for the good conduct time allowance because he committed a heinous crime.
Antonio Sanchez was convicted in 1995 over the slay of UP Los Baños students Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez in 1993. He was sentenced with 40 years of reclusion perpetua.
