Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia announced that teenage pregnancy has become a “national social emergency.”
KAMI learned that the increasing cases of adolescent birth over the past decade reached to a level where it becomes a “national concern.”
In a report by the Inquirer (author Matthew Reysio-Cruz), Pernia urged President Rodrigo Duterte to issue an executive order to declare teenage pregnancy as a national social emergency.
“I commit to advocate for the President to issue an executive order acknowledging teen pregnancy as a national social emergency,” Pernia said.
Pernia also urged the lawmakers to act immediately on the matter because it affects the development of the country.
“This issue affects the heart of the development of our country as the state of our young people today affects the state of our country’s future,” Pernia said.
