- Sen. Bato dela Rosa has changed his tune over the case of former Mayor Antonio Sanchez
- Dela Rosa said that Sanchez should be sentenced with death
- Earlier, he said that the former mayor deserves a “second chance”
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa has changed his tune over the case of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez.
KAMI learned that after saying Sanchez deserves a second chance, Dela Rosa said that the former mayor should have been given a death sentence.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Dela Rosa said that the death sentence should have been reimposed even before to penalize such heinous crimes.
“Ang sa akin nga ganun ka-heinous ang krimen na ginawa nya, dapat binitay sya noon,” Dela Rosa said during a Senate hearing.
“Bakit kailangan ko pa mag-sympathize? Kung ako tanungin, bitay na dapat iyan noon. Galit na galit ako sa kaso na iyan,” he added.

In a previous report by KAMI, Sanchez was convicted in 1995 for the killing of UP Los Baños students Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez in 1993.
The Department of Justice earlier said that Sanchez could be a candidate for early release due to “good conduct.”
KAMI also reported earlier that Dela Rosa said that according to some corrections officers, Sanchez has become a “changed man.”
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa was elected during the May 2019 elections. He was the Director General of the Bureau of Corrections and the former Chief of Philippine National Police.
