Sen. Leila de Lima had an emotional reunion with her 86-year-old mother and her family in Iriga City.

KAMI learned that Leila immediately hugged her ailing mother Norma Magistrado on Thursday.

In a report by ABS-CBN News, the senator’s brother, Vic, shared what happened the moment Leila saw their mother.

“Hinug kaagad ng kapatid ko. And then tinanong ni Leila 'yung mother namin ‘Si’isay ako' or in Tagalog ‘Sino ako?’ ‘Nung una hindi kaagad nakasagot 'yung mother namin dahil mahina na ang pandinig so medyo nilakasan ng boses ni Leila," Vic said.

"‘Si isay ako?' At sumagot 'yung nanay namin: 'Si Leila ikaw, si Leila ikaw!' Tuwang-tuwa. Nag-hug ulit sila. It is a beautiful reunion, nag-hug lahat,” he added.

The Muntinlupa regional trial court branches 205 and 256 granted Leila’s motion for furlough. She was allowed to visit her mother in Iriga from Aug. 14 to 15, given that she would be back at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center by Aug. 16.

Opposition Sen. Leila Norma Eulalia Josefa Magistrado de Lima was the Secretary of Justice during the administration of former Pres. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino.

She has been detained for 2 years now over drug-related charges. However, she denied these allegations.
