- Senator Ronald dela Rosa once again defended President Rodrigo Duterte from critics
- This was after the head of state said that police officers are allowed to accept gifts
- The Senator also admitted that he received pricey presents before
Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa bravely defended the statement of President Rodrigo Duterte about police officers accepting gifts from other people.
KAMI learned that the Philippines’ head of state said a few days ago that policemen can accept gifts from generous benefactors despite the existence of anti-graft law.
Duterte stated that he will not punish police officers who accept presents as long as they were given out of “generosity.”
"Hindi ko kayo iipitin, basta 'pag binigyan kayo eh tanggapin 'nyo,” he quipped.
“It is not bribery... It cannot be bribery because it is allowed by law. What I mean, if there is generosity in them, sabi ng anti-graft [law] you cannot accept gifts? Kalokohan!” he added.

Because of this, Bato came to the rescue and defended the President against the heavy criticisms that he received due to his controversial remarks.
He pointed out that Duterte is just being practical and he also admitted that he too accepted gifts when he was still an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
“Praktikal na tao lang si Presidente at ako ay praktikal din. Inaamin ko tumanggap din ako noon,” the Senator said during his interview in News TV.
“Anong gagawin ko? Sabihin ko hindi po hindi namin kakain bawal po ‘yan. Napakaipokrito ko ’pag sinabi kong hindi ko tinanggap,” he added.
With regards to the gifts that were given to him, Bato revealed that he accepted a Lacoste shirt before from a generous person.
In a previous article by KAMI, Bato slammed people who opposed the restoration of mandatory ROTC for Senior High School students.
