Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua has formally turned over the P10 million donation of the Chinese government to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) for the Batanes quake victims.
KAMI learned that the Chinese government expressed its sympathy and condolences to the 2,000 victims of the earthquake that rocked Itbayat, Batanes.

In a report by the GMA News Online (author Dona Magsino), Interior Secretary Eduardo Año was the one who formally received the donation.
“The Chinese government expresses its deepest sympathy and condolences to those affected families and decided to donate 10 million pesos to aid the victims and support the Philippine government in its efforts to rebuild Batanes and help local residents return to normal life,” it said in a statement.
On July 27, twin earthquakes jolted Batanes. According to reports, about 9 people died due to the magnitude 5.4 and 5.9 quakes that struck Itbayat.
The quakes also damaged many houses and heritage sites. Itbayat residents were also asked to evacuate.
