- President Rodrigo Duterte said that he is open to bringing back Dengvaxia vaccine
- However, he has to hear the advice of local health experts first
- Earlier, the Department of Health declared a National Dengue Epidemic
President Rodrigo Duterte has announced on Thursday that he is open to using the Dengvaxia vaccine once again.
KAMI learned that amid the declaration of National Dengue Epidemic by the Department of Health, the President aired his thoughts on Dengvaxia.
In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Arianne Merez), President Duterte said while he is open to bringing back Dengvaxia, he still has to hear the advice of Filipino health experts about this first.
“I am open to the use of Dengvaxia again. Maraming patay. It’s an epidemic. Now, compare it vis-à-vis with those who died, I want to hear the words of the experts, doctors,” Duterte said.
“And we have enough bright people here to tell us. I do not need foreigners to tell me, my own Filipino scientists and doctors would tell me what to do. I will be guided by their announcements,” he added.

In a previous report by KAMI, the Palace also said that it is open to using Dengvaxia vaccine again if proven that it would benefit the Filipinos.
The Dengvaxia vaccine was launched during the administration of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.
However, the distribution was suspended following the reports and complaints that many students allegedly died due to the vaccine.
The health department said they will announce within the next two weeks if they will allow Dengvaxia vaccine again.
