Manila Mayor Isko Moreno said that there should be a law to penalize barangay chairpersons and police officers who refuse to reclaim all public roads.

KAMI learned that the barangay chairpersons and cops assigned to a certain area should be held liable before the responsibility goes to the mayor.

I think it is high time to create a law pero ayoko pangunahan ang Senate,” Moreno said.

Kapag merong na-picture-an na nakalatag, bukas suspendido na si chairman, yung lespu eskyerda na (pulis aalis na),” he added.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año backed the idea of Moreno.

However, Senator Panfilo Lacson said that there is no need to pass a law for that.

Kailangan pa ba ng legislation? Siguro a local government ordinance would suffice. Empowered sila to enforce local ordinances. So kung may ordinance sa Manila, mabuti nga yan para malinis talaga,” Lacson said.

In a previous report by KAMI, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Año to suspend any mayor or governor who refuses to reclaim public roads.
