Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has recently signed an ordinance seeking to provide P1,000 allowance to qualified college students of Pamantasang Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and Universidad de Manila (UdM).
KAMI learned that the Manila local government will start distributing the allowance by January 2020.

As reported by the Philippine News Agency (author Ma. Teresa Montemayor), the ordinance aims to help the students to continue their education despite financial struggles.
"There is a need to support the youth of Manila intellectually and it can be done by providing public school students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and the Universidad de Manila (UDM),” Moreno said in a statement.
However, there are qualifications to enjoy the benefit such as:
- Must have good standing
- Must not have any disciplinary record
- Resident of Manila
- Must be a registered voter (if not yet of legal age, the parent or legal guardian must be the registered voter of Manila)

As reported by the ABS-CBN News (author Katrina Domingo), the allowance will be distributed through ATM cards.
“We really wanted to be efficient in such a way. Also mas kapakipakinabang in terms of ginhawa,” Moreno said.
In a previous report by KAMI, Moreno also signed an ordinance that aims to give P500 monthly allowance to senior citizens, solo parents, persons with disabilities (PWD), and Grade 12 students in public schools.
