The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted a clearing operation in Baclaran, following the order of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a tweet by the Philippine News Agency, MMDA Chairperson Danny Lim, MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, Pasay City Mayor Imelda Rubiano, and Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez supervised the clean-up drive.
KAMI learned that the vendors strongly opposed the clearing operation. The vendors argued that the government should provide space for them to sell and earn legally.
“Hindi kami basura! Tao rin kami, naghahanapbuhay!” a vendor said.

The vendor also shared that they no longer know where to get an income and provide for their family.
“’Di na namin alam saan namin kukunin panggastos namin araw-araw,” she said.
