Senator Nancy Binay appealed to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to immediately help the staff who were affected by the closure of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) gaming outlets.
KAMI learned that Binay said DOLE could help by extending its “Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers” program.
In a report by the Inquirer (author Daphne Galvez), about 120,000 were affected by the closure of around 30,824 PCSO gaming outlets led by Philippine National Police (PNP).
“May mga pamilyang binubuhay ang mga staff ng PCSO gaming outlets, at malaking bagay ang agarang tulong na maibibigay ng DOLE para maibsan ang epekto ng kanilang biglaang pagkawala ng trabaho,” Binay said.
Meanwhile, opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros accused President Rodrigo Duterte of setting double standards between PCSO gaming outlets and Chinese online gambling.
“I am worried that the President is setting double standards: Being heavy-handed against selected local licensed gambling operations such as the PCSO but lax and permissive towards Chinese online gambling ang jueteng,” she said.
