Recently, Senator Ralph Recto has filed a bill seeking to make the validation of birth certificates last a lifetime.

However, do birth certificates really have an expiration date?

KAMI learned from the report of GMA’s 24 Oras that birth certificates do not have an expiration date.

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) clarified that there has never been an order that birth certificates should have a validity date.

"Walang instruction yung PSA na ganyan na may expiration," said Daniel A. Ariaso Sr., Deputy National Statistician, Civil Registration and Central Support Office.

However, depende na sa mga nagre-require na government agencies or private institutions also kung ano ang gusto nilang issuance ng copy mismo," he added.

The PSA also mentioned that it changes the security paper regularly to avoid anyone from copying the documents. However, it does not mean that the previous documents issued are no longer valid.

Currently, the PSA charges P155 for the authentic copy of birth certificates. However, online request and home delivery would cost P365.

In a previous report by KAMI, it was explained how Filipinos could request a copy of their civil registry documents online, even those outside the country.
