During the 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte, he urged Congress to pass the Salary Standardization Law.
KAMI learned that the proposed measure seeks to increase the salary of government workers, most especially the teachers and nurses.
In a report by the GMA News Online (authors Virgil Lopez and Jon Cabuenas), President Duterte said that the additional pay for the teachers would not be as high as they expected, but it would be enough.
"I, therefore, believe that it is now time for Congress to approve a new version of the Salary Standardization Law, ngayon na," Duterte said.
"To the teachers, alam mo dito... who toil and work tirelessly to educate our young, kasali na po dito 'yung hinihingi ninyo," he added.
"Hindi naman masyadong malaki, pero it will tide you over during these hard times, a little bit bigger than before. This is intended to increase the salaries of national government workers including teachers and nurses," the President continued.
As reported by the Inquirer (author Katrina Hallare), Senator Joel Villanueva welcomed the proposal of President Duterte to include the teachers to the Salary Standardization Law.
“We are keen to look into the President’s proposal to include teachers in the next salary standardization law which Congress could take up in the coming months,” Villanueva said.
