President Rodrigo Duterte recently signed a bill into law seeking to provide a 20 percent discount to students on all modes of transportation.
KAMI learned that the new law will be covering discounts on jeep, bus, UV Express, taxi, airplane, ships, Metro Rail Transit (MRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), and Philippine National Railway (PNR) for elementary to college students.
In a report by the CNN Philippines, Republic Act 11314 or the Student Fare Discount Act can be availed daily, including holidays and weekends. The students must always present their valid ID or validated enrollment or registration forms.
However, the new law does not cover those who are enrolled in post-graduate studies, short-term courses or seminars, dancing, and driving schools.
According to Senator Sonny Angara, one of the authors of the bill, more than 30 million students in the Philippines will enjoy the new benefit.
In a previous report by KAMI, President Duterte backed the creation of “Department of OFW” to cater the needs of overseas Filipino workers. The President also noted that the government will be looking closely to recruitment agencies.
