- Human rights lawyer Amal Clooney recently joined the legal team of Rappler CEO Maria Ressa
- The Palace commented over it and welcomed the involvement of Clooney
- Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that Ressa was just looking for someone to be his match
The Palace has commented on the recent report that prominent human rights lawyer Amal Clooney has joined the international legal counsel of Rappler CEO Maria Ressa.
KAMI learned that Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said he is excited to have a debate with Clooney.
"Palagay ko naghahanap lang sila ng katapat ko. Eh kasi pag kaming dalawa nagdedebate ni Maria, medyo kawawa naman kasi hindi naman siya abogado. Kailangan may abogado rin siya. Ayun, maganda pa, sexy pa," Panelo said.
In a report by Inquirer, the Presidential Spokesperson said that he is willing to “educate” Clooney over the issues that Ressa has been facing in the country.
"Mukhang nabola niya (Ressa) lang si Atty. Amal. Misinformed kasi si Atty. Amal, siguro kapag nagkita kami I can, to use the words of the President, 'educate her'," Panelo mentioned.
As previously reported by KAMI, Clooney described Ressa as a “courageous journalist” for standing up against human rights abuses.
Amal, the wife of Hollywood actor George Clooney, has joined the legal team of Ressa for the 11 charges she has been facing.
