- President Rodrigo Duterte has broken his silence over the House Speakership race
- He declared that Alan Peter Cayetano will be the next House Speaker
- However, Cayetano will be sharing terms with Lord Allan Velasco
President Rodrigo Duterte endorsed Taguig City Representative Alan Peter Cayetano as the House Speaker of the 18th Congress on Monday.
KAMI learned that Cayetano would be sharing terms with Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.
“I tried to distance myself from [the speakership race] but apparently I said it’s time that I talk,” President Duterte said.
“Your Speaker will be Alan Peter Cayetano,” he added.
In a report by the GMA News (author Virgil Lopez), Cayetano commented about the decision of the President through a Facebook live video.
“Para sa ating Panginoon, para sa ating bayan, let’s all work together and let’s not make it about politicians, about ourselves, about Duterte administration, but something that can really uplift ang kabuhayan ng bawat Pilipino,” he said.
Cayetano also urged his fellow lawmakers to join the “Die-hard Duterte Supermajority” (DDSM) in the House of Representatives.
In the 2016 polls, Cayetano joined the vice presidential race as the running mate of President Rodrigo Duterte. However, he lost to Vice President Leni Robredo.
