- The Department of Health conducted a press briefing over the controversial birthday party of Imelda Marcos
- The health department suspected that a “contamination” happened
- Most of the admitted guests were already released from the hospital
The Department of Health conducted a press briefing to address the suspected food poisoning that transpired during the 90th birthday celebration of former First Lady Imelda Marcos at the Ynares Sports Complex in Pasig City.
KAMI learned that the health department suspected that bacterial contamination might have caused the guests abdominal pains, vomiting, and diarrhea.
In a report by ABS-CBN News, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the bacteria could have come from the boiled egg.
“The clinical manifestation strongly points to a toxin derived from the bacteria known as staphylococcus aureus,” he said.
“It could have come from the egg. The more common report is that the egg tasted foul, if not spoiled. We cannot discount the rice. It could be a contamination already. It might not be easy to differentiate whether it’s purely from the egg, from adobo or from the rice,” he added.
A medical specialist at the Rizal Medical Center explained that the toxins could be from unsanitary practices while preparing the food.
“How do we get it? Maybe unsanitary practices during the time of preparation… Maybe (food) was not stored at the correct temperature,” Valenzuela said.
“Puwedeng 'yung nag-prepare, hindi malinis ang kamay niya. Puwedeng dun nanggaling ang bacteria. So 'yung bacteria na 'yun, napunta sa pagkain. Hindi kinain agad. Puwedeng dumami, nag-produce ng toxin. So 'yung toxin na 'yun 'yung sanhi ng symptoms na pagtatae, pagsusuka, pananakit ng tiyan,” he added.
Duque confirmed that 261 guests were rushed to the hospitals on Wednesday.
According to a recent report by the DZMM Teleradyo, most of the admitted patients were already given permission to leave the hospital.
In a previous report by KAMI, around 137 guests at the birthday party of Imelda were reportedly rushed to the hospital after experiencing dizziness and nausea due to food poisoning.
