- Senator Bong Go filed a Senate bill seeking to reimpose the capital punishment
- If signed into law, the death penalty would be given to drug-related crimes and plunder
- He also plans to lower the threshold of the ill-gotten wealth for it to be considered plunder
Senator Christopher “Bong” Go recently filed a bill seeking to reimpose the death penalty for heinous crimes related to illegal drugs and plunder.
KAMI learned that the Senate Bill 207 will amend Section 1 of Republic Act 9346 or an Act Prohibiting the Imposition of Death Penalty.
In a report by the GMA News (author Amita Legaspi), Go explained that tougher punishments must be implemented to secure the safety and the development of the country.
“We must recognize the need to take a harder stance against these pervasive evils and impose the most extreme form of punishment, reserved only for the most evil of crimes,” Go explained.
As reported by the CNN Philippines, Go mentioned that the death penalty should also be imposed for plunderers to end the corruption in the country.
“Exasperated na po si Pangulong Duterte sa nangyayari sa ating bansa, sa korupsyon sa gobyerno na nangyayari sa ating bansa so gusto ko siya tulungan,” Go said.
The neophyte senator also plans to lower the current P50 million threshold of ill-gotten wealth for it to be considered plunder.
“Titignan pa po natin ito, napakalaki po nung amount na ‘yan. Baka pwede nating babaan pa ng konti. Baka pwedeng 10 million o 1 million para wala nang magnakaw,” Go said.
