- President Rodrigo Duterte wanted China to guarantee the safety of Filipinos in the West Philippine Sea
- Duterte is expected to discuss the matter during the bilateral meetings with China
- The Palace reiterated that a diplomatic protest was already filed against China
President Rodrigo Duterte wanted China to guarantee the rights safety of the Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.
KAMI learned that Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said that President Duterte would raise the matter during the bilateral meetings with China.
“The President wanted China’s assurance that the rights and safety of our fisher folks are guaranteed,” Panelo said.
The Presidential Spokesperson also reminded the critics during the press briefing that the administration has already filed a diplomatic protest against China following the ramming incident that happened in the Reed Bank.
“It is absolutely fallacious to argue that the President is surrendering our sovereignty by not aggressively pursuing the favorable arbitral award,” Panelo said.
In a previous report by KAMI, President Duterte said that Chinese President Xi Jinping has given him a warning over conducting oil exploration in the West Philippine Sea.
