- Senator Vicente Sotto III has a good news for private employees
- He filed a bill that proposes a 14th month pay for them
- The lawmaker also revealed the other important details of the measure
Senate President Vicente Sotto III once again pushes for a bill that seeks to provide employees of private sector a 14th month pay.
KAMI learned that the proposed additional wage benefit for private employees shall be equivalent or higher than their basic salary for one month.
It shall be given to non-government, rank and file employees, notwithstanding their positions and employment status.
However, according to Senate Bill No. 10, only those who have rendered at least one month of work during the whole calendar year are eligible to receive the benefit.
Since the 13th month pay is given not later than June 14 of the year, the Senate Chief proposes that the 14th month pay shall be given to employees on or before December 24.
Sotto expressed that his bill just aims to give private employees an extra earning since their 13th month pay is mostly consumed on Christmas.
He also believed that the additional benefit will lessen the financial burden of employees, given the high prices of commodities and goods.
“The 13th – month pay is gobbled up by Christmas expenses. We need extra earnings in the middle of the year to help ordinary workers in school and medical expenses,” the lawmaker quipped.
“Health and education needs of the ordinary Filipino must be assisted by our government,” he added.
In a previous article by KAMI, Sotto aired his comment on possible impeachment case against President Rodrigo Duterte.
Senator Vicente Sotto III is a politician and television personality in the Philippines. Before entering politics, he was a regular host of the long-running noontime show entitled “Eat Bulaga.”
