- President Rodrigo Duterte said that the constitutional provision on the Philippine exclusive economic zone was “thoughtless” and “senseless”
- He claimed that China might downplay the provision if he would present it to them
- The President insisted that he was just protecting all of the Filipinos
President Rodrigo Duterte has commented on the constitutional provision which mentioned that the Philippine exclusive economic zone (EEZ) must be protected by the state.
KAMI learned that for the President, the provision was “thoughtless” and “senseless.”
"That is a provision for the thoughtless and the senseless. Protection on economic rights of economic zones, resources? I am protecting the country and the 110 million Filipinos," the President said, as reported by ABS-CBN News.
President Duterte also mentioned that China might downplay the provision if he would present it to them.
"Sabihin ko, 'Get out because this is the Constitution.' Sabihin sa’yo [ng China], 'Naubusan ka na ng toilet paper? Gamitin mo ’yan,'" he said.
The President also emphasized that the Constitution would be meaningless if a war has prompted.
"That piece of paper, the Constitution, would become meaningless with no spirit except desperation, agony and suffering. Kasi pagpunta mo roon how do you drive them away?" Duterte mentioned.
In a previous report by KAMI, President Duterte has threatened those who would file an impeachment case against him for allegedly violating the Constitution by allowing China to fish in the Philippine's exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
