- Former Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario was detained at Hong Kong International Airport
- Del Rosario said that it was a “plain and simple harassment”
- He went to Hong Kong for a business meeting
Former Philippine Foreign Secretary Albert del Rosario was held and questioned at Hong Kong International Airport on Friday.
KAMI learned that Del Rosario was detained at the immigration for four hours.
In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Joel Guinto), Del Rosario said that there was no rational explanation why the Hong Kong authorities detained him.
During a phone interview of DZMM with Del Rosario, he mentioned that he already informed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) about his flight and the agency had sent a proper communication to the Hong Kong authorities. Del Rosario also said that he was traveling with a diplomatic passport.
Del Rosario said that his trip to Hong Kong was purely about business. He called the incident “plain and simple harassment.”
In a previous report by KAMI, former Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales was also barred from entering Hong Kong when she was on a vacation trip with her family.
Both Del Rosario and Morales were the ones who filed a “communication” against Chinese President Xi Jinping over alleged human rights violation of the local fishermen.
