- Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian proposed to teach financial literacy in senior high school
- He said that this would lessen the investment scams in the country
- Gatchalian mentioned that it is necessary to have early detection of the scams
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian proposed to teach financial literacy to Filipinos as early as senior high school.
KAMI learned that this proposal would lessen the investment scams and fraud in the country.
In a report by the GMA News Online (author Amita Legaspi), Gatchalian said that this is important because scammers take advantage of illiteracy and poverty most especially in the provinces.
"I think puwede nating umpisang pag-usapan sa high school. Karamihan ng high school especially in our system, magtatrabaho na 'yan at makakaipon ng pera. Mahalagang mapag-usapan na ito sa senior high school especially in our provinces," he said.
"Nakita ko 'yung Aman Futures (pyramid scam) nag-operate sa Zamboanga del Sur, ito naman (Kapa) sa Davao del Sur, nago-operate sila in areas na madaling maengganyo o hikayatin yung ating mga kababayan," he added.
Gatchalian said that it is just necessary to do preventive measures so that Filipinos would be extra cautious in investing their money.
"We have to have this early detection. Dapat maaga pa lamang ma-detect na, maaga pa lang napaparusahan na ‘yung gumagawa ng ganito," he said.
"Ang bottomline, dapat ang ating mga kababayan maging mas maingat. At kung may nade-detect na ganitong too good to be true, sabihin na sa ating gobyerno para mahinto agad,” Gatchalian added.
Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte wanted to shut down Kapa Community Ministry International Inc. for allegedly being involved in a P50 billion worth of investment scheme in Davao. However, they denied this allegation.
