- A ballot box was found floating by a resident in Maguindanao
- A resident was supposed to go fishing when he found the box
- An election officer said that it would not affect the election results
A ballot box was found floating by a resident in Datu Salibo, Maguindanao, on Thursday.
KAMI learned that the box had official ballots inside, and it was for the recent May 2019 polls.
In a report by the ABS-CBN News (author Arianne Apatan), resident Moadz Mindao first thought the box was a crocodile, before he saw a text that read: “Commission on Elections, Republic of the Philippines.”
"Nakita ko ang itim nagulat ako sunod ang katawan puti. Ang sabi ko baka buwaya tapos nakita ko ang nakasulat Commission on Elections, Republic of the Philippines," Mindao said.
According to an election officer of Datu Salibo, the newly-found ballot box would no longer affect the election results.
Datu Salibo has 9,504 registered voters but only 5,000 voted during the May 2019 polls. The box contained about 1,778 ballots of registered voters.
Solaiman Sandigan was proclaimed as a mayor with 2,729, while outgoing mayor Norodin Salasal had 1,427 votes.
As previously reported by KAMI, the Senate candidates who made it to the “Magic 12” have attended their proclamation rites with their families.
