- The Chinese government has already commented about the incident that happened between Filipino and Chinese fishing vessels
- China referred to it as an “ordinary maritime accident”
- However, the investigation is still on-going regarding this matter
Recently, a Chinese vessel reportedly hit an anchored Filipino fishing vessel and immediately ran away from it, leaving the lives of 22 Filipinos in danger.
KAMI learned that the Chinese government belittled the incident and called it as an “ordinary maritime accident.”
In a report by ABS-CBN’s Bandila, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Geng Shuang said that the incident should not be politicized.
“It was an ‘ordinary maritime accident’ and warned against ‘irresponsibly politicizing’ the collision,” he noted.
As reported by the GMA News (author Virgil Lopez), Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said that he received a word from Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua that Beijing was “thoroughly” and “seriously” investigating what happened.
In a report by KAMI earlier, Panelo said that it is possible for the Philippines to cut its diplomatic ties with China if it has been proven that the accident was “intentional.”
Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. also announced that the government has filed a diplomatic protest against China right after the incident.
