KAMI learned that the Miss Universe PH 2016 was slammed by netizens as they recalled her alleged transphobic comment against Angela Ponce, the first transwoman to join Miss Universe last year.
In an interview back in 2018 regarding transwomen joining pageants, Maxine said:
Well kung gusto nila talaga sumali, may mga pageants naman na for them, na right for them, so let’s give them an idea na meron namang pageant for them, para naman equal din sa girls diba.
Because of this, she posted an apology in her Instagram and Twitter accounts to all the people she might have offended for her past comment.
According to Maxine, she "was misinformed, and lacking in empathy and understanding" during that time.
KAMI previously reported that Maxine Medina got bashed by netizens because of her daring swimsuit photo.
Maria Mika Maxine Perez Medina also known as Maxine Medina represented the Philippines in Miss Universe 2016 and made it to the Top 6.
