Earlier, a Chinese vessel reportedly hit an anchored Philippine fishing vessel and immediately left the scene, leaving 22 Filipinos' lives in danger.

KAMI learned that the senators condemned the actions of the Chinese vessel against the Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.

Through a tweet, outgoing Senator Antonio Trillanes IV recommended that Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. should refer the incident to the Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organization.

In a report by the Inquirer (author Pathricia Ann V. Roxas), Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon said that the incident demands a “strong” and “immediate” action.

“What do you call a friend who abandons a friend in times of need?” Drilon asked.

“This incident demands strong and immediate action. We cannot let this incident pass. No self-respecting nation will allow that,” he added.

As reported by the ABS-CBN News (author Sherrie Ann Torres), Senator Grace Poe said that the Philippine must stand against China.

“Akalain mo binangga na nga iniwan pa dun para mamatay. Hindi po excuse na sabihin malakas ang China at mahina tayo. Kung nginungudngud na mukha mo sa lupa, hindi ba mas kahiya-hiya sa inyong integridad na hindi lumaban?” Poe said.

“Kung ngayon gusto nila daliri niyo, sa susunod kamay, sa susunod balikat na, buong katawan kung hindi tayo magsalita,” she added.

Senator Risa Hontiveros urged President Rodrigo Duterte to recall the Philippine envoy and consuls in China after the incident.
