A Philippine vessel sank after colliding with a Chinese vessel in the West Philippine Sea on Sunday night.

KAMI learned that 22 lives of the Filipinos were in danger after the Chinese vessel immediately left the scene after the incident.

In a report by the ABS-CBN News, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana denounced the actions of the Chinese vessel. Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin Jr. announced that he has filed a diplomatic protest against them.

"We denounce the actions of the Chinese fishing vessel for immediately leaving the incident scene abandoning the 22 Filipino crewmen to the mercy of the elements," Lorenzana said.

The Defense chief shared that the Philippine vessel was anchored when it was hit by the Chinese ship. A Vietnamese vessel that was in the area immediately rescued the Filipino fishermen in coordination with the Philippine military.

On Twitter, Locsin said that he already “fired off” a diplomatic protest on Wednesday. He mentioned this as a response to the recommendation of opposition Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.

“Thanks, meanwhile I fired off a diplomatic protest yesterday. The Maritime Safety Committee of the IMO is it; but, Sonny, that I will proceed on the merits of the case and what it calls for while the matter is studied by the IMO. Even our ally failed us in Scarborough, remember?” Locsin said.
