Senator-elect and former MMDA chairperson Francis Tolentino proposed to add a star on the Philippine flag on Wednesday, the celebration of Independence Day.
KAMI learned that for Tolentino, the additional star would symbolize Benham Rise, an island located at Aurora province.
In a report by the Manila Bulletin, Tolentino said the remark during his speech at the celebration of 121st Independence Day in Davao City.
"I propose a fourth star to the Philippine flag. A fourth star to reflect the Benham Rise, the future Philippines, the future land of the next generation of Filipinos," Tolentino reportedly said.
The three stars of the Philippine flag represent Luzon, Panay, and Mindanao.
As reported by the ABS-CBN News, Tolentino also said during his speech that the Philippines is for the Filipinos.
“Again, I remind you as what President Emilio Aguinaldo said during the first anniversary of our independence: ‘Ang Pilipinas ay para sa Pilipino,’” Tolentino said.
