“Hindi pa tapos ang laban! Manindigan tayo para sa katotohanan”, shouted the mayor’s supporters.

What triggered his supporters to demand recount is their belief that there were manipulation and irregularities in the votes as there were questionable low turnout of votes in different election precincts located in Kid’s bailiwick.

Abby Binay is proclaimed Mayor of Makati City early morning on Tuesday, May 10 by the Official Board of Canvassers. Incumbent Mayor Kid Peña got 137,803 votes and was defeated by Congresswoman Abby Binay who garnered 153,487 votes. Monique Lagdameo, Binay’s running-mate, won as vice mayor, and Luis Campos, Abby Binay’s husband, also took the lead in the congressional race with 166,450 votes.

In October 2015, brother of Abby Binay and former Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay Jr. was dismissed by the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with his alleged grave misconduct and dishonesty in the overpriced Makati carpark building.

After he casted vote in San Antonio National High School, Junjun was queried about the probability of his dad being jailed.

“Is there fear on my part? Eh taumbayan ang manghuhusga. Hindi naman tayo nagwalang hiya sa taumbayan. Kung patas ang eleksyon kailangang galangin natin ang resulta,” Junjun answered.

He said that they are not afraid because corruption cases against his family are without any basis.

“It’s all part of the campaign to smear the name of my father and the rest of my family. Kung kulong lang, hindi kayang takutin ang tatay ko. Maraming beses nakulong tatay ko nung martial law. Nung high school ako, nakulong father ko for a case that was politically motivated,” Junjun added.

The dismissed vice-mayor countered that the election is not for them, but for the people.

“Itong eleksyon na ito, hindi tungkol sa amin, ito ay laban ng mga mahihirap nating kababayan,” Junjun added.
