- ABS-CBN’s franchise renewal has been frozen by the House of Representatives
- The network’s franchise will end in nine months
- The bill would have to be re-filed in July at the start of the 18th Congress
The bill that seeks the renewal of ABS-CBN’s legislative franchise has been frozen by the House of Representatives.
The Kapamilya network’s franchise will expire in nine months and a franchise renewal is necessary to continue its operation, as reported by The Philippine Star (authored by Jess Diaz).
Since the bill was not approved by the Committee on Legislative Franchises before the 17th Congress ended, it would have to be re-filed in the 18th Congress, which begins in July.
ABS-CBN’s rival networks already had their franchise renewal.
President Rodrigo Duterte is reportedly against the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN because of the latter’s alleged bias against him.
