Milk tea has become a popular drink and “stress reliever” for Filipinos nowadays. However, KAMI learned the health disadvantages of drinking too much milk tea.

In a report by GMA’s “24 Oras,” dietician and nutritionist Charmaine Manango explained that milk tea is an “empty caloric drink.”

"Mataas siya in excess, definitely kasi sobrang taas sa caloric content and matamis din siya, sobrang tamis din niya,” Manango said.

“Kapag ang diet na mataas sa sugar, can lead to diabetes type 2 and heart problems in the future,” she added.

The health expert warned that having one or two cups of milk tea a day can be considered excessive.

Her advice? Get a milk tea once a week and make sure you order the kind you have been craving for.

“I would recommend once a week and get the milk that you really crave,” Manango noted.
