- Senator Manny Pacquiao was getting the approval of the senators to continue the Senate President rule of Tito Sotto in the 18th Congress
- However, Senator Cynthia Villar decided not to sign just yet
- She said that Pacquiao should fix issue of their political party PDP-Laban first
During a Senate session on Monday, Senator Manny Pacquiao was seen roaming around to get the signatures of different senators as an approval to retain Vicente “Tito” Sotto III as the Senate President in the incoming 18th Congress.
However, KAMI learned from ABS-CBN News that Cynthia Villar opposed the act of Pacquiao.
In the video, it can be seen that Villar approached Pacquiao and Koko Pimentel to let them know her side.
"Huwag n'yo ko idadamay sa away n'yo. Bakit hindi n'yo kausapin si Sotto at mga kapartido ninyo para matapos ang gulong ito? Bakit ako isasali ninyo?" Villar said.
"Kasi ikaw dinala mo kay Sotto 'yung kapartido mo, sabi n'yo maggoo-good time lang kayo. Eh biglang sinabi n'yo na supportive sila kay Sotto," she added.
In a statement, Pacquiao said that he was not offended by the comment of Villar.
“Ako naman, nagtitimpi lang din ako. Wala naman akong ano… Ako pa,” Pacquiao stated.
“Hindi ko na inano ‘yung pride ko, e. Basta ano lang ako, ino-organize ko nang mabuti para hindi lumaki ‘yung problema,” he added.
Pacquiao clarified that the main issue was the Senate committee chairmanship. Therefore, he urged the incoming senators to attend the supermajority bloc meeting to resolve the issue.
Villar explained that her point was for Pacquiao to fix their political party PDP-Laban first and stop involving her that she wants to be a Senate President. She also said that she wants to wait for her Nacionalista Party-mates Pia Cayetano and Imee Marcos before signing the pro-Sotto resolution.
“Ang point ko, ayusin nila yung partido nila kasi yun ang may problema. Eh bakit ako kasali na magse-Senate President daw ako as quoted by their partymates?” Villar said. She also clarified that she was just reminding Pacquiao.
