A mother who was reported to be suffering from post partum depression jumped off a vessel navigating from Cebu to Dipolog. She was carrying her 7 moth old child when she jumped into the sea.
According to a post by Facebook user Jb Mamugay, they were rescued immediately with the help of a passenger who happens to be a doctor. Both of them were saved after they were given CPR.
This condition usually affects mother who had just given birth. According to Web MD, Postpartum depression (PPD) is a complex mix of physical, emotional, and behavioral changes that happen in a woman after giving birth. According to the DSM-5, a manual used to diagnose mental disorders, PPD is a form of major depression that has its onset within four weeks after delivery.
Women suffering from PPD may be misunderstood and judged. There were those who do not believe in such disorder.
